Artist information
Growing up in Far North Queensland, we learned to read the waters of rivers, creeks and coastlines where crocodiles live. Ancient, powerful and watchful, they remind us that the land does not belong to us. We Share the Waters reflects on what it means to grow up in a place where coexistence is a conscious practice: learning when to step back, giving animals space, and recognising them as an integral part of the landscape that we share as a home.
As someone born and raised in Australia with a Japanese mother and Sri Lankan father, my sense of identity was always complex. Through caring for nature and connecting to my local place, this act itself became a connector to my culture.
